A Seminar for Teachers New to the SOURCEBOOK Series
Teachers reshape their thinking of spelling as they are introduced to the research-supported Sourcebook's spelling-for-writing and word-skill paradigms. This full-day seminar is complemented by Rebecca Sitton's follow-along resource handbook, Increasing Student Spelling and Word-Skill Achievement.
Seminar topics include how to use the Sourcebook to:
ensure transfer of words to writing
implement practical ways to differentiate spelling and word-skill instruction
meet the learning needs and styles for all ability levels
comply with State Standards, district goals, and school objectives
accommodate flexible time frames
assess and grade students authentically
integrate spelling and word-skill instruction across the curriculum
engage parents to make learning partnerships with their children
increase scores on state/district language-based tests
A Seminar for Veteran SOURCEBOOK Teachers
Teachers refine and extend their use of the Sourcebook as they engage in activities to recharge their instruction. A wealth of best-practices ideas gathered from Sourcebook teachers across the nation are shared.
A Seminar for SOURCEBOOK Mentors
A select group of teachers are trained to act as Sourcebook implementation mentors to guide teachers through the Tutor Me Training materials in small grade-level groups. Often, this is accompanied by a half-day introduction for all teachers.
A Meeting for Parents of Students Engaged in the SOURCEBOOK Program
Exemplary schools share one common characteristic—active parent-partnership programs. To promote parent partnerships, the Sourcebook methodology is introduced to parents to help them learn about the classroom-tested strategies. Suggestions are provided for extending the Sourcebook teachings into their home with their child, and questions are answered.
