What’s the same?
- To reflect its totally integrated approach that supports every aspect of any communications curriculum, the name is new—Rebecca Sitton’s Sourcebook Series for Teaching Spelling and Word Skills. It is as much a word-study curriculum as it is a spelling program.
- Each teacher Sourcebook is an illustrated, colorful, teacher-friendly program bound into one completely nonconsumable resource at each grade 1-8 that includes a unit-by-unit organization of activities,
tests, teaching notes, and blackline masters for at-school and at-home
practice.
- Each Sourcebook includes a set of five large classroom Teaching Posters to complement instruction. Each Teaching Poster is correlated to a blackline master Personal Poster for student reinforcement.
- Differentiated activities focus on an integrated approach for teaching and learning word strategies for spelling, writing, reading, phonics, editing, grammar, usage, mechanics, vocabulary, literature, speaking, and thinking. Teachers select lessons from a menu of activities that reflects the same concept, but varies in difficulty to meet all students’ needs.
- All unit tests are differentiated—the Cloze Story Word Tests and Sentence Dictation Tests are designed to gather information on long-term word mastery of all previously introduced words. Then word study is targeted to the words each student has not mastered. All words are retested automatically on subsequent tests.
- Testing includes a Skill Test on a blackline master for every unit that targets application of an essential skill for that level.
- Testing for Levels 5-8 (grades 5-8) includes a Proofreading Test on a blackline master for every unit that parallels the standardized test format for testing all editing skills.
- The testing program includes three Achievement Tests on blackline masters for each grade level to monitor yearly growth.
- Build Skillful Writers is an activity option in each unit Level 4-8 (grades 4-8) to reinforce writing and word skill application.
- Exercise Express provides six quick activity options with generic blackline masters to use with all or some students.
